Configuring Field Services


1.Start SME Field Services.


2.Connect to local data store:
a. Select data server to connect to (refer to your system administrator).
b. Choose authentication method:

  • NT integrated security.
  • Use specified user ID and password. (refer to your system administrator).


c. Click on connect to server buhttp://www.high5software.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Configuring_Field_Services&action=submittton.
d. Choose database name. (refer to your system administrator).
e. Field Services checks if this is the first time you connect to this database go to step 3 if not go to step 4.


3.Setting up user accounts:
a. Click on load startup users.
b. After the users loads click leave startup.


4.Configuring Home service:
a. home service URL protocol HTTP or HTTPS. (refer to your system administrator).
b. Type the correct URL address. (refer to your system administrator).
c. Service name is set to defualt by application or system administrator and called fieldservices.asmx.
d. Use (validate) to check the server for the services defined.
e. If all the submitted data is correct then a message will display All clear for: (service URL).
f. Click Save.


If the submitted data is not correct:
Common Error Messages:
1- The request failed with HTTP status 417: Expectation Failed.

- Check that connection to the host is established.

- Check the URL if it is correct.

- Check the service name if it is correct.

2- The request failed with HTTP Status 405: Method Not Allowed:

- Check if the service name is typed correctly. (Refer to your system administrator).



5.Set Active Technician:
a. A window will show technicians list, choose one (mainly your ID), type your password and click Authenticate.


Now Field Services shows in the status bar the following:
- Active: (Technician Name).
- Connected Locally.
- Connected to Home Service.
- Date and Time.


6.System Administrator Configuration: a. Setup System and startup Defaults:
- Select load approved and active vendors.
- Select load list of consumables / tools.
- Load list of truck parts.
- Load common services.
- Refresh stock locations.


Now click on Load System Startup Data and wait to get all data downloaded. This process tells you that everything you need to start is loaded.

b. Setup Startup Defaults: (Field Services Defaults):
- Set current Database as startup database and connect to local data store on startup.
- Set current technician to login by default on startup. (use this feature if you have only one technician using the notebook).
- Set current remote service as default and connect to remote data service on startup.
- Force purchase order number.
- Disable purchase orders.
- Do not maintain inventory.
- Set default stock location (truck, Warehouse etc...).


Now click set startup defaults.

c. Setting up Messaging Properties:
- SMTP Gateway: type your SMTP address. Example: smtp.123domain.com
- SMTP Gateway TCP Port: This is the port that your SMTP server uses to send messages, default is 25.
- SMTP Server Requires Authentication: Check SMTP server settings. Refer to your system administrator).
- SMTP Server Requires TTLS: Check SMTP server settings. Refer to your system administrator).
- Username: is your email account. Example: xyz@123domain.com.
- Password: is the password for your email account.

Now click on set messaging properties.
Click On Leave Startup


Field Service Application is now ready to be used and has all the needed components to start interacting with Back Office
